Figurative 2025
My recent body of work is derived from my long standing practice of drawing and painting in nature. Using my ten acre farm as a backdrop, I engage live models who pose in the natural setting. I begin the creative process using drawing materials to block a scene, capturing a quick glimpse – a singular moment in time. The gestural quality of the response results in the creation of a dynamic space, one that is flowing and ever changing. The reflections upon the water surface of my ponds add to the ambiguity of the finished paintings. My intention is to show the strength of the feminine figure by allowing tension to exist between the subject and their surrounding environment while suggesting resilience and harmony within nature.
Situated within the contemporary abstract category of painting the works are meant to focus on the gestural quality of the painted images and suggest an open-ended quality that invites the viewer to engage with the work.
